Homeowners should promptly contact the relevant emergency services or 911 to report the occurrence and request assistance. Quick action can help minimize the spread of the fire and prevent further damage.

Ensuring Safety:

Do not take any clothing or food items from the house, including pet foods. Also, you should not take any of the prescription medicines that were in the house where a fire has occurred. As they have been exposed to toxic chemicals and compounds that could cause severe reactions.

Preventing Further Damage & Securing the Property:

After ensuring everyone's safety, homeowners should take steps to prevent further damage to their property. This may include shutting off utilities, such as gas and electricity, to reduce the risk of additional fires or hazards.

This is part of a homeowners responsibilities and duties under their insurance policy. All necessary steps must be performed in a timely manner in order to meet your obligation to the insurance carrier. Including but not limited to shutting off all utilities, if necessary, winterizing the property to prevent the pipes from freezing or bursting. Securing the property by making temporary repairs to windows and any other openings. Covering any exposed areas, such as siding or roof venting to prevent water intrusion. Homeowners should cooperate fully with authorities investigating the fire, providing any necessary information or assistance to aid in the investigation.

Documenting Damage:
